Doug (unofficially) installs a turbine!

Hear are a few pictures of my turbine in the helicopter. everything is pretty
much trial fitted for now. I am working on an actuator for the belts now.

Here's a  picture of the completed gear box. Not to bad on weight 25.5lbs The gear box is custom made for the T32 engine for the Helicycle. The gears are stock front wheel drive Chrysler 4 speed automatic transfer gears. there is a .11 reduction in the gearbox I could have gone either way a reduction or an increase in speed> an increase in speed would have been 6660 RPM I would have needed a 4'' pulley on the gearbox. This would have been to small. I did not want to have the possibility of belt slippage. I went with the lower RPM about 5500 and use a 6'' pulley. The main purpose of the gear box was just to reverse the rotation. The small amount of reduction was just a plus. The rear half of the gear box is cast aluminum. I made up a wooden pattern of the gear box and sand cast it ( I have a small aluminum foundry) The top cover is 2024 T351 Both shafts are 4140 half harden steel. There is an accessories drive on the lower shaft for an alternator. Lubrication is pressure fed from the engine. At this time lets just see how this is going to work out before I commit to making any more gear boxes. I have close to 150 hrs tied up in the designing and building of this gear box and patterns. The next one should be a little easier I have pretty much every thing worked out. If everything works out OK I might be convinced to make a few more Dyno testing on the gear box will start in a couple weeks. I need to build adaptors to couple the gearbox to my dyno.

Here is an un assembled view of my T32 gear box for my Helicycle.

Mounts

A couple of more pictures on the mounts I made to mount the turbine in the Helicycle. The threades rods will be replaced by a aluminum square tube once I get the belt tensioner finished. I have the engine installation completed.I am going to remove the engine to clean everything up and paint it.I have been puting off Dyno desting the engine untill I had the engine completely trial fitted. I worked for a week on an electric actuator for the belts that did not work out as good as I wanted so I am going to the hand lever that BJ designed untill a suitable electric actuator can be found. more later.
